Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 22, 2026

OpenPost (“we”, “us”, “our”) respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use https://openpost.co.zw, why we collect it, how we protect it and what choices you have. We keep it as small as we can: we do not show advertising, we do not use tracking or analytics cookies, and we do not sell your information.

Who is responsible for your information

OpenPost is run by Peacro Technologies Africa (Pvt) Ltd, 103 Duiker Drive, Rochdale, Nyanga, Zimbabwe, which is responsible for the personal information described here. You can reach us at hello@openpost.co.zw.

What we collect and why

  • Newsletter subscription. Your email address, the date you subscribed and a private code that lets you unsubscribe. We use these to send you our newsletter. We rely on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
  • Comments. Your name, your email address, your comment, the time you posted and a scrambled (hashed) form of your IP address. Your name and comment are shown publicly once approved. Your email address and IP information are never shown. We use them to publish and moderate comments, to contact you about your comment if needed, and to prevent spam and abuse.
  • Author applications and accounts. When you apply to write for us, we collect your name, email address, a password, your job title, a short bio and your message to the editors. If you are approved, you can also add a photo and a Peacro Pay support link. We use this to review your application, run your account, show your byline and author page, and contact you about your stories. Your name, photo, job title, bio, support link and published stories are public. Your email address, password and application message are never shown. Passwords are stored in a protected (hashed) form that even we cannot read.
  • Author membership payments. For each membership payment we keep the amount, currency, date, the period it covers and the Peacro Pay payment reference. We use this to run your membership and to keep financial records. We do not receive or store your card, bank or mobile money details. Those are handled by Peacro Pay.
  • Supporting authors and OpenPost. The Support and Support us buttons take you to Peacro Pay. We do not receive any information about support payments to authors. For payments to OpenPost itself, we receive the payment details Peacro Pay provides to a merchant, such as the amount, date and reference.
  • Likes. If you press the Like button, we store a random anonymous code in a cookie in your browser. We keep only a scrambled version of it on our server so that we can count one like per visitor.
  • Article views. We count how many times an article is read. We do not store who read it. To avoid counting the same visit again and again, your IP address is used briefly in scrambled form and then discarded.
  • Security. To protect the site from abuse we limit how often someone can search, log in, apply or submit forms. This uses your IP address in scrambled form for a short time.
  • Server logs. Our hosting provider keeps standard technical logs (such as IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time) for security and to keep the service running.
  • Messages to us. If you email us, we keep your message and email address so that we can reply.

Cookies

We use only the small number of cookies the site needs to work:

  • nr_vid is set only if you press Like. It lasts up to one year and lets us count one like per visitor.
  • nr_session is used only by authors and editors who log in. It ends when you log out or close your browser.

We do not use advertising, analytics or tracking cookies. The share buttons on our articles are plain links and do not load code from other companies. If you click one, or a Support button, you leave our site and that service’s own privacy policy applies. You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work, but logging in needs the session cookie.

Who we share information with

We do not sell or rent your information. We share it only with:

  • our web hosting provider, which stores the site and its data for us;
  • Peacro Pay, which processes membership and support payments (Peacro Pay is also run by Peacro Technologies Africa, under its own terms and privacy policy);
  • an email service, if we use one to send the newsletter, which receives subscribers’ email addresses for that purpose only;
  • authorities or other parties when the law requires us to, or when it is needed to protect people’s safety or our legal rights.

Where your information is kept

Our hosting provider’s servers may be located outside Zimbabwe. When information is stored or handled in another country, we take reasonable steps to make sure it stays protected.

How long we keep it

  • Newsletter email addresses: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.
  • Comments and the details that go with them: until we delete them or you ask us to.
  • Author applications that are not approved: up to 12 months, then deleted.
  • Author accounts: for as long as the account is open. When an account is closed we delete the login details. Published stories are kept as described in our Terms of Use.
  • Membership payment records: for as long as Zimbabwean tax and accounting law requires.
  • Like and view information: for as long as the article is published. The like cookie expires after one year.
  • Security and rate-limit information: a day or less.
  • Emails you send us: for as long as needed to deal with your message, and then for a reasonable time afterwards.

How we protect it

We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), store passwords in hashed form, limit who can access the site’s administration (authors can only see their own stories and account), and keep software up to date. No website can be completely secure, but we work to protect your information. If a breach puts your information at risk, we will tell the people affected and the authorities as the law requires.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

  • tell you what personal information we hold about you and give you a copy;
  • correct information that is wrong (authors can also edit their own profile at any time);
  • delete your information, including comments you have posted or your author account;
  • stop using your information in a particular way, or withdraw a consent you gave earlier.

Email hello@openpost.co.zw and tell us what you would like. We may need to confirm that you are the person concerned. We aim to reply within 30 days. You can leave the newsletter at any time using the link in any newsletter.

We aim to handle personal information in line with Zimbabwe’s Cyber and Data Protection Act [Chapter 12:07]. If you are unhappy with how we have used your information, please tell us first so that we can put it right. You may also complain to the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ), which is Zimbabwe’s Data Protection Authority. If you live in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you may have additional rights under the law there.

Children

OpenPost is not meant for children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. Author accounts are only for people aged 18 or over. If you think a child has given us information, please email us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed. If we make an important change, we will say so on the site and tell authors by email.
